General Information
What is the Ancaster Lions Volleyball Club?
We are a volunteer, non-profit sports organization, providing volleyball opportunities for youth in the Greater Hamilton area. We are affiliated with the Ontario Volleyball Association.
We provide an environment where kids learn to love volleyball and to play the game well.
What programs do you offer?
We offer competitive (rep) teams as a well as a development program, which includes our Fall Lions SPIKES session and our Lions League winter house league. See the sections below for more information about our programs.
Who's in charge?
Our club is led by a volunteer Board of Directors, which is elected by the club's members at its Annual General Meetings. The Board meets regularly and reports to the membership at the AGM. The Board follows and applies the club's Constitution and By-laws.
Where do I direct a compliment or complaint?
If you have a concern about one of our programs or teams, please direct it to the coach or administrator in charge of that program. If your concern is not resolved, you may contact the Board. If you have a compliment, please let the coach or administrator know, and feel free to pass it on to the Board as well!
How do I give feedback about your web site or social media presence?

Competitive Program
When is the competitive season?
Tryouts normally happen in August and September; for the coming season, the OVA's competitive tournaments will begin in November, with the season finishing in April.

What are the age categories for the 2022-2023 season?
If you were born between Sept 1, 2004 and Dec 31, 2005 (16 months) you are 18U.
If you were born between Sept 1, 2005 and Dec 31, 2006 (16 months) you are 17U.
If you were born between Sept 1, 2006 and Dec 31, 2007 (16 months) you are 16U.
If you were born between Sept 1, 2007 and Dec 31, 2008 (16 months) you are 15U.
If you were born between Sept 1, 2008 and Dec 31, 2009 (16 months) you are 14U.
If you were born between Sept 1, 2009 and Dec 31, 2010 (16 months) you are 13U.
Players born in the fall (on or after September 1 of any year) are able to choose between two age groups.
How often do teams practice?
Most of our competitive teams practice twice per week, with occasional extra practices.
How many tournaments are there?
Most of our competitive teams compete in between four and eight tournaments per season, in addition to the Ontario Championships.
What is the cost to participate on a competitive team?
The cost depends on how many players the team has, how many tournaments it attends, and how many sponsors it obtains. Our season fees are usually between $1100 and $2000; this includes uniforms and gear, practice time, coaches, insurance, etc.
Where you do practice?
We rent various gyms in the Hamilton area, including at Hamilton District Christian High, Calvin Christian School, Grace Christian School, Guido de Bres Christian High School, Providence Christian School, Redeemer University, and Timothy Christian School.
